Film & Gespräch Die Möllner Briefe

Im November 1992 zerstörte der rassistische Brandanschlag von Mölln die Leben von Ibrahim Arslan und seiner Familie. Der damals siebenjährige Ibrahim überlebte, verlor aber seine Schwester, seine Cousine und seine Großmutter. Die Stadt Mölln erhielt Hunderte Briefe mit Solidaritätsbekundungen, von denen aber fast drei Jahrzehnte niemand Notiz nahm. Der Film folgt Ibrahim bei der Entdeckung dieser Briefe und bei der Begegnung mit drei ihrer Verfasser*innen. Zugleich zeichnet er ein komplexes Porträt des anhaltenden Traumas, das Ibrahim und seine Geschwister bis heute beeinträchtigt. Ibrahim hat einen Umgang mit den Geschehnissen gefunden, indem er aktiv gegen Rassismus kämpft und sich für eine Erinnerungskultur einsetzt, die die Opfer ins Zentrum stellt. Sein Bruder Namik hingegen befindet sich noch am Anfang seines Wegs der Bewältigung. Der Film beleuchtet nicht nur die Erfahrungen der Überlebenden, er deckt auch die große Solidarität auf, die es damals gab – eine Solidarität, von der die Opfer bis zu diesem Zeitpunkt nichts wussten. Er schlägt eine Brücke zwischen Vergangenheit und Gegenwart und nimmt eine Perspektive des Erinnerns ein, die den Stimmen der Betroffenen den Raum und die Anerkennung gibt, die sie verdienen.

Im Anschluss an den Film laden wir ein, mit İbrahim Arslan sowie der Filmemacherin Martina Priessner ins Gespräch zu kommen. Moderiert wird das Gespräch von Aras Badr (LAMSA).

Film & discussion The Mölln Letters

In November 1992, the racist arson attack in Mölln destroyed the lives of Ibrahim Arslan and his family. Ibrahim, who was seven years old at the time, survived, but lost his sister, his cousin and his grandmother. The town of Mölln received hundreds of letters expressing solidarity, but for almost three decades no one took any notice of them. The film follows Ibrahim as he discovers these letters and meets three of their authors. At the same time, it paints a complex portrait of the ongoing trauma that continues to affect Ibrahim and his siblings to this day. Ibrahim has found a way to deal with the events by actively fighting racism and promoting a culture of remembrance that focuses on the victims. His brother Namik, on the other hand, is still at the beginning of his journey of coping. The film not only sheds light on the experiences of the survivors, it also reveals the great solidarity that existed at the time – a solidarity that the victims were unaware of until then. It builds a bridge between the past and the present and takes a perspective of remembrance that gives the voices of those affected the space and recognition they deserve.

في نوفمبر 1992، دمر الهجوم العنصري بإشعال النار في مولن حياة إبراهيم أرسلان وعائلته. نجا إبراهيم، الذي كان يبلغ من العمر سبع سنوات في ذلك الوقت، لكنه فقد أخته وابن عمه وجدته. تلقت بلدة مولن مئات الرسائل التي تعبر عن التضامن، لكن لم يلتفت إليها أحد طوال ما يقرب من ثلاثة عقود. يتتبع الفيلم إبراهيم وهو يكتشف هذه الرسائل ويلتقي بثلاثة من مؤلفيها. وفي الوقت نفسه، يرسم الفيلم صورة معقدة للصدمة المستمرة التي لا تزال تؤثر على إبراهيم وإخوته حتى يومنا هذا. وجد إبراهيم طريقة للتعامل مع الأحداث من خلال مكافحة العنصرية بنشاط وتعزيز ثقافة الذكرى التي تركز على الضحايا. من ناحية أخرى، لا يزال شقيقه نامق في بداية رحلته للتعامل مع ما حدث. لا يسلط الفيلم الضوء على تجارب الناجين فحسب، بل يكشف أيضًا عن التضامن الكبير الذي كان موجودًا في ذلك الوقت – تضامن لم يكن الضحايا على علم به حتى ذلك الحين. يبني الفيلم جسرًا بين الماضي والحاضر ويتبنى منظورًا للذكرى يمنح أصوات المتضررين المساحة والاعتراف الذي يستحقونه.
