Wir haben eine Geschichte zusammengepuzzelt.
Daraus ist ein langer Remix aus Rap, Migration und Empowerment geworden, in dem das ambivalente Echo von vier Jahrzehnten Almanya nachhallt. Was hat die Musik der sogenannten Gastarbeiter*innen der 1960er und 1970er Jahre und der Menschen im Exil in den 1980er Jahren mit dem aktuellen deutschen Gangsta-Rap zu tun? Welche Verbindung gibt es zwischen dem politisch -kulturellen Empowerment der 1. Generation, den Kämpfen um Staatsbürgerrecht in den 1990er
Jahren und der schillernden popkulturellen Gegenwart?
In der Lesung remixen sie Bilder, Texte, Songs und Filme aus 40 Jahren Almanya mit persönlichen
Erfahrungen und gesellschaftlichen Debatten. Wir durchlaufen die vergessenen Jahre des HipHop-
Oldschool, beleuchten den Einfluss der Wiedervereinigung auf die Geburt von Deutschrap
und hinterfragen den Sound von Gangsta-Rap – und wir fragen nach Class, Race und Gender in
dieser Geschichte des Empowerments.

We have puzzled together a story.
The result is a long remix of rap, migration and empowerment, in which the ambivalent echo of four decades of Almanya reverberates. What does the music of the so-called guest workers of the 1960s and 1970s and the exiles of the 1980s have to do with current German gangsta rap? What is the connection between the political and cultural empowerment of the 1st generation, the struggles for citizenship rights in the 1990s and the colourful pop music of today?
and the dazzling pop-cultural present?
In the reading, they remix images, texts, songs and films from 40 years of Almanya with personal
experiences and social debates. We go through the forgotten years of hip-hop
old school, shed light on the influence of reunification on the birth of German rap
and scrutinise the sound of gangsta rap – and we ask questions about class, race and gender in this
in this history of empowerment.
